Although Steve may not be related by blood, he is very much family. If you’ve ever stepped foot into the Marshall Flooring showroom, he’s likely to have greeted you with an ear-to-ear smile and a warm, “Hey, how are ya?” Our rug showroom wouldn’t be what it is today without him, and it’s time we shared his Marshall Flooring journey.
Steve’s Marshall Flooring Journey How did Steve find his way into the Marshall Flooring crew?
It all started in Junior High, where Steve and Marc Wien, son of the Marshall Flooring founder and current partner, first met. The two rekindled their friendship in 1985 when Steve joined the Marshall Carpet softball team.
Before jumping into the Marshall Flooring business, there was Flo & Eddies. Steve started off in the hotel and restaurant industry by opening a series of sports bars called Flo & Eddies; Marc Wien was his partner in this endeavor. A household name in the area, their restaurants became known for their award-winning ribs and cornbread.
After 18 years in the restaurant business and wanting a fresh start, Steve and Marc opened Marshall Rug Gallery directly across the street from their Mayfield Road location in 1996. From the start, Steve’s effusive personality and rug knowledge helped people feel comfortable investing in their rugs; as Rug Manager, Steve maintained the same attention to detail and high-quality service customers experienced and expected in the flooring showroom in the rug gallery.
As both the flooring showroom and rug business continued to flourish, we moved to our current location in the Eastgate Shopping Center in 2010, providing us the opportunity to finally combine both stores under one roof to better serve our customers’ flooring goals. This move helped solidify ourselves as the largest independent rug showroom in Northeast Ohio, something that couldn’t have been possible without Steve’s hard work and dedication.
Steve’s Life Outside The Showroom
When he’s not in the showroom helping customers and cracking jokes, Steve enjoys traveling and relaxing with family and friends. He’s also a loving husband and father to two sons. His son, Rick Glassman, a comedian and actor, has even brought him onto his podcast, Take Your Shoes Off, where Steve’s personality and wit shine. If he’s not on the podcast, he can be found at The Greyhound Bar & Grill in LA, owned by his other son, Matt Glassman.
